A former Baltimore Sun reporter covering the Bay writing over 600 columns in 13 years, Tom Horton is recognized as one of America’s foremost nature writers. Born on the Bay and a “waterman” all his life, he’s authored four books on the Chesapeake, partnered on Bay photo and essay books, and produced two hour-long TV documentaries on Bay blue crabs and on watermen. His work has been published in National Geographic, The New York Times, Smithsonian, Rolling Stone, and many more outlets. His five-week six-credit kayak course for Salisbury University in Maryland covers the entire Delmarva Peninsula. Wisdom Institute Board members also describe Tom as someone who "understands the Bay's problems as well as its resilience", a "keen observer", a "storyteller with wit and wisdom".
Join the Wisdom Institute on April 12, 2019 in the UMBC Event Center to hear about how senior citizens can bring the word citizen to life. An hor d'oeuvre reception will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the UMBC Event Center lobby followed by a luncheon at noon in the Retriever Room which will feature a talk and question and answer period with Professor Horton. There is no charge for this event.
Free parking will be available in the Stadium Lot next to the UMBC Event Center.
