Grammy Award winning soprano, Leona Mitchell has emerged as one of America’s most beloved and celebrated sopranos. Miss Mitchell spent 18 seasons as a leading spinto soprano at the Metropolitan Opera in New York where she portrayed many dramatic and lyrical roles such as: Aida, both Verdi Leonora’s from La Forza Del Destino and Il Trovatore, Manon Lescaut, La Boheme, Un ballo in maschera, Madama Butterfly, Liu in Turandot, Madame Lidoine as well as roles from Mozart and Handel. 

Please join us for this unforgettable evening of song and celebration, a rare opportunity to hear Ms. Mitchell live and to raise funds helping young vocalists finish their training. 

David W. Smith, a magnificent tenor and passionate teacher at UMBC, touched so many lives before his untimely passing.  The Gala honors David Smith's life as an artist and his commitment to the vocal students at UMBC.  Proceeds will support an annual scholarship for a young vocalist pursuing their education at UMBC.
